driverphoneDriving in the Philippines can sometimes be a hazardous undertaking. Dilapidated and congested roads mean getting to your destination on time is not a simple task; however, with over half of Metro Manila residents owning a smartphone, driving related apps have seen a significant increase in the country, helping to counteract the chaos that greets many motorists on the road. Records show that Filipinos download the highest number of games and apps in all of South East Asia, indicating that apps have become an important addition to the Filipino way of life. Driving apps are not just limited to maps; users can find like-minded cost conscious carpoolers, the best fuel prices and even vehicles in their respective cities. Take a look at our top five apps for drivers below and start saving on both time and money once you hit the road.

    Trip Barker

Trip Barker lets you drive through congested cities with ease.  Simply plan your route and Trip Barker will provide you with real-time traffic updates so there will be no surprises on your way to your destination.  Moderate to heavy traffic areas will automatically appear on the map, while clicking the “Incidents” and “Traffic” tabs will list a summary of traffic-related events along your route. Traffic data for Metro Manila is provided via the MMDA traffic website as well as from user-contributed traffic information. If you do find yourself in a jam, take a look at the ‘points of interest’ detailed by other users. These could help take your mind off the traffic and make your day that little bit more interesting.

    Carmudi

Carmudi recently launched their android app, letting smartphone users check the best car and motorcycle deals around the Philippines. With over 20,000 listings, users can search for their perfect vehicle with the app’s sleek and easy-to-use online tools. Carmudi’s listings are verified before they go online, so users know they are dealing with trusted sellers. Users can also share the details of the vehicle that they are interested in so they can get advice from others and make a well informed decision.

    Waze

Similar to Trip Barker, Waze is another real time route planner giving you all the information you need to get to your destination on time. Simply type your destination address into your smartphone, keep the app open (just look and don’t touch!) and receive traffic and other road data about your desired route. You can also take a more active role by sharing road reports on accidents, road works, or any other hazards along the way, helping to give other users in the area a ‘heads-up’ about what’s to come.

    What Gas

Most drivers have a gas station that they visit regularly, but what happens when you are driving through unfamiliar territory and your tank starts to get dry? What Gas not only lets you locate your nearest gas stations but also informs you of the most affordable prices. With gas prices rising continuously, the money saved from being frugal with fuel can go a long way.

    Tripid

Tripid is a car pooling service that connects passengers and drivers headed the same way. Search for destinations other users have posted up or alternatively post your own, chat with ‘buddies’ on your trip, invite others to join and then pay your driver using ‘tripid credits’. This app appeals not only to commuters watching their pennies but also to green passengers that want to get to their destination in an environmentally friendly fashion
